Small Town America "The Louisa Kentucky Project"
My Book "Small Town America, the Louisa Kentucky Project:" is starting to wrap up. The book is about a small town in Eastern Kentucky that boarders West Virginia. The town is about 1 1/2 miles wide and is not near any other major city. The idea of the book came out of reading the book "The Oxford Project". I wanted to put together a photo essay about a small town in 2011 and what it is like to live there. But I wanted to tell the story through the people who live there. So the book is really there story. I found that the people in the town welcomed me a stranger into there homes and there lives. They shared childhood memories, and what there life is like today. Consistently I found everyone saying they are happy to live in Louisa and that it is a quite but wonderful place to live and raise a family. The biggest advantage to living in such a small town is that everyone know everyone else. Most by there first name. Though the book does not cover everyone who lives in Louisa it does give a good cross selection. From the Mayor, the Deputy Sheriff, Business people, the elderly and the youth. Most have lived in this small town there entire life. Below is a video from the first two days of interviews in the town and a small view of the city and its people. The book is planned to come out the end of September 2011. Watch this web site for updates.
