About Me

"Never settle for that which you can see, instead strive to create that which others can only dream"

Photography is about telling a story in a single image. A snapshot in time that conveys a message or stirs emotion. To bring delight to the viewer again and again. I am passionate about my photography. I want to do more than just snap a picture. I strive to create a work of art.

Almost 30 years I look a large pictures of my Grand Mother. It hangs over my bed and reminds me of how I feel about photography. When I see the print I think of her and with that she is always with me.

The print is turning red now as the silvers start to oxidise. I regret that I did not have the technology that we do today with images that are rated to last over one hundred years. So I take care in each and every print that I have processed to assure that the quality and technology is built into it to last.

Take your time and explore my web site. That is how to get to know me and how to best judge if my style fits your needs. Then contact me for a personal consultation.

Your image is my passion. I look forward to hearing from you.

My Bio

My name is Michael Adkins and I live, work and play in Huntington West Virginia. I am foremost a fine art and people photographer but I shoot all types of photography.  My approach to photography is a bit unusual. I visualize the image that I want to create long before I ever consider picking up the camera. This can be both rewarding and frustrating. I approach each photo project using traditional artistic values. Focusing on the flow of light, geometric shapes, composition and tonal values. The comment from many people viewing my work for the first time is it looks more like a painting or illustration than a photo. I have been told that some of my work resembles that of the great illustration artist Norman Rockwell. This is the greatest complement that anyone can give as I am a long time fan of his work.

I am the president of the Ohio Valley Camera Club, a board member of Tri-State Arts Association, a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, and recently a new member of the Renaissance Gallery in Huntington where my permanent collection of fine art images are available to the pubic.

I was the recipient of the “Awards of Excellence” in the 66th annual Allied Artist of West Virginia Juried Exhibition and just recently was awarded the level of “Expert In Color” in the Ohio Valley Camera Club. I have been pre-juried into Tamarack of Beckley West Virginia, the showplace of West Virginia Artisans.
